Story of Smarika Chandrakaer – Girl who left high paying job for farming

Smarika grew up in the Charmudiya village in a farmer’s family. Her family has had many ups and downs in their career but she quickly learned the skills of farming at a young age. Later on, she goes to Raipur to complete her engineering degree in computer science. After engineering, she worked as a business development executive in Pune. Every weekend she used to visit her hometown which reignited her love for agriculture. She began experiments with the vegetables on their farms and later on brought successful experiments to her 20-acre land for vegetable farming.

Her attention to detail helps her to find out that vegetables have shorter growth cycles and multiple harvests per year. By this, she can grow them multiple times and become more profitable. She was involved in all the steps of farming – soli preparation, installing fences, setting drainage system cropping, and more. She grew an impressive 50 tonnes of tomato per acre with all these efforts in the first year. From there she never looked back she is earning 1.50 crore in year and giving jobs to local people.
