Total Number of Seats in IIMs 2026

In 2026, in total there are 22 IIMs in India. IIM Guwahati is the newest addition to the IIM list — inaugurated on February 14, 2026, under the mentorship of IIM Ahmedabad, with its first PGP batch (2026–28) admitting 70 students. These IIMs are categorized into three levels, namely first generation, second generation, and third generation, according to their year of establishment. They are also referred to as old, new, and baby IIMs. With the addition of a new IIM, the total number of seats in IIMs has increased. The total flagship MBA/PGP seats across all IIMs are approximately 7,500–7,700 as of the 2026–28 batch (this rises to nearly 9,700 when IPM, executive, and other specialised programs are included).

IIM Fees

There has been a significant increase in IIM fees in the last couple of years. Now the Baby IIMs like IIM Nagpur, Visakhapatnam among others charge MBA fee between 13 to 19 lakhs, second generation IIMs like IIM Udaipur, Rohtak, Tiruchirappalli among others have a fee structure between 17 Lakh to 25 Lakh and top IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta have a fee structure of 25+ lakhs.
